Cobra 6 Actual

Well, it came out just after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. It was meant to be a joke that with the USSR gone many KGB officers would have to find work at the CIA.

I think Smokey Mountain Knife Works sold these, but I somehow missed out on getting one, so I’m still looking.

That is terrible, BH. I think when eBay got rid of the ability to contact other people on eBay this “fakes scam” only got worse. Much worse. I recall several times in the past that I contacted a seller about a fake Zippo he was selling as authentic and got no response or change in the listing. I would then contact the bidders to warn them off. Can’t do that now.

Last time I contacted a seller about a fake Zippo he said I was wrong and did I think all Zippo's on eBay were fake? I said "NO", just the ones that look like his. No response, auction continued....

Nice lighters, thanks for posting them.  Our USN specific lighter topic is here

The USS SNOWDEN lighter is from her reserve training ship duty just prior to her final deactivation.

Here's a WW2 black crackle lighter I picked up a few weeks ago. It doesn't have a makers mark but it's a bit heavier & wider than a Berkley black crackle I own. One side has a Air Transport Command DUI while the other side has a Air Service Command DUI attached.  My grandfather served in the ATC as a flight clerk so buying it was a no brainer for me.     resized_20220212_181443(1).jpg.8bd56eb6a491d764a3306bbbb0b1f94b.jpg20220212_181435.jpg.aa41b792c1a78b778cde9742e53000d2.jpg

General Apathy

.

Inherited Zippo lighter . . . . .

This morning sorting through a carton of military pieces inherited from a long-time friend who died I pulled out this Zippo to share on the thread.  I haven't researched the year of manufacture yet, it is marked ' H  -  VIII '

Cobra 6 Actual

That’s a nice lighter, General Apathy! Here’s one sort of similar to a tour jacket, but in Zippo form:

US Army 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment. Major Mitchell J. Hazam, 2d Battalion CO. Mid-1954 to Mid-1955 "Full Stamp" Zippo (non-magnetic case) w/original insert. **Approximately thirteen years later I believe COL Hazam was CO of MACV Team 50 at Cao Lanh, RVN. Included is COL Hazam's 7th Infantry Division Support Command Japanese-made "Vulcan".
