mes Posted September 3, 2012 Share #1 Posted September 3, 2012 John Trotter joined the marines less than a month after Pearl Harbor.He went throught recruit training and was assigned to A company 1st battalion 7th marine.He particiapated in Guadalcanal from Nov 12 1942 until Jan 5th 1943 Then on to Melborne Austrialia and next saw action at Papua New Guinea were he was subjected to aerial bombardment on Oct 27,28,29 and 31st and on nov 23 and Dec 5th 1943.On to Cape Gloucester.Where he was involved in the landing assault and occupation of the beachhead fromDec 26 1943 to Jan 1st 1944.Next the attack on Silimanti point and capture of hill 660 from Jan 2 44 to Jan 16 44.Particiapated in the defense of the airfield jan 17 to 4-29 44.Left Cape Gloucester and sailed to Pavuvu island and on to Peleliu where he was last seen during the attack on a japanese position sept 17.First reported missing in action and later confirmed Killed in action.I wanted to show this small grouping to a very brave marine who saw a lot of tough fighting and should be remembered.
