Alec Posted August 6, 2012 #1 Posted August 6, 2012 Was lucky enough to find this over the weekend. Hard to find a Marine marked helmet especially from pre or early WWII time period. This Marine enlisted in Feb of 1941 and eventually went to OCS and was in the 12th Marines later in the war.

LarryM3 Posted August 7, 2012 #7 Posted August 7, 2012 Was lucky enough to find this over the weekend. Hard to find a Marine marked helmet especially from pre or early WWII time period. This Marine enlisted in Feb of 1941 and eventually went to OCS and was in the 12th Marines later in the war. Very nice helmet, and quite rare. I have seen the very same USMC type of ID marks in a M1917A1 recovered from Wake Island. Congrats on a super find! Larry
combat-helmets Posted August 7, 2012 #9 Posted August 7, 2012 VERY nice score!!!! Love the M1917A1's. Alot think that the Marine ones had the EGA affixed tot he front, when in fact that was not as common. To find one marked like this is a rare score!!!
'Flage Guy Posted August 8, 2012 #10 Posted August 8, 2012 Whoa...not just a Marine Pot, but in super shape at that!! :w00t:
helmetz Posted August 10, 2012 #11 Posted August 10, 2012 The font and ink stamp look the same as this one. http://www.walhalla.se/topic/35960-us-m191...mp;#entry401660
Alec Posted August 10, 2012 Author #13 Posted August 10, 2012 It gets even better with this helmet. He was part of 1st Prov. Brigade in Iceland in 1941. I wonder if this helmet was in Iceland with him?
Schnicklfritz Posted August 10, 2012 #14 Posted August 10, 2012 Nice lid. Great to Id it to a Marine in Iceland. I was just looking at my M17 that has the similar sand finish. Going back tonight to look inside the liner to see if there is a maker mark. Been told a couple of times that these M17's with that sand finish are British made helmets for US troops.
