robinb Posted December 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 23, 2011 Rare USAAF survival machete made by Cruver Mfg. Co. and Collins Co. Cruver made the handles, while Collins the blades. These were issued in various emergency sustenance kits. This example is in unissued condition complete with its instruction sheet and envelope attached. SKIPH Posted December 23, 2011 Share #2 Posted December 23, 2011 Never knew these were used by USAAF. Always was under the impression they were for the OSS. Good info. SKIP
robinb Posted December 23, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted December 23, 2011 These were never intended for use by the OSS. Here's a War-time picture of an Arctic Emergency Kit. Notice the bolo at far right.
SKIPH Posted December 23, 2011 Share #4 Posted December 23, 2011 This could change a lot of thinking in the collectors' world. I can see by design, why they were considered for the OSS and may have been used. But, you have that, "In Your Face", WW2 photo that sheds new light. I was always under the impression they carried standard machetes, or V-44 knives in the larger survival kits. WOW! SKIP
