US Navy VA-216 Black Diomonds.

 

It is a shoulder sized patch. Any idea of what time period it is from ?

Early in the units' history,they flew Skyraiders,then Furys before transitioning to the Skyhawks.This unit was active only between 1955 and 1970,and had a very heavy Vietnam war history,starting OP's as early as 1961 off of Thailand!

 

As for the patch,it is difficult to date because it lacks the VA,or the AKTRON designation.I did find one just like yours at the LJ militaria site,but no info or date.
