mach1derful Posted December 1, 2010 #1 Posted December 1, 2010 http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-JACK-E-FOLEY-101-A...=item1e6007bb44 Thought this was pretty amusing...
KASTAUFFER Posted December 1, 2010 #2 Posted December 1, 2010 Makes you wonder if the photos were actually sent in that envelope from Jack, and then the letter " was created as an afterthought" Kurt
1canpara Posted December 1, 2010 #3 Posted December 1, 2010 http://cgi.ebay.com/LOT-JACK-E-FOLEY-101-A...=item1e6007bb44 Thought this was pretty amusing... Yeah, the letter sure speaks volumes....it's like someone wrote it in another language and then used a translation tool (like Google translate) to put into English.... It'll be interesting to hear what others have to say about the items, I mean the para-wing bracelet and the garrison cap look reasonably genuine and the postmark on the envelope seems real...hmmm, Rick
1canpara Posted December 1, 2010 #4 Posted December 1, 2010 Makes you wonder if the photos were actually sent in that envelope from Jack, and then the letter " was created as an afterthought" Kurt that seems plausible Kurt....any comment on the items themselves? Rick
APO472 Posted December 1, 2010 #5 Posted December 1, 2010 Let's see...Jack wasn't at Toccoa, wasn't in Normandy either...He joined the Company in Bastogne. and for good measure that is not his signature! Hope this helps.
mach1derful Posted December 1, 2010 Author #6 Posted December 1, 2010 He must of got the SS jacket while serving duty in 2007 in the Internet Normandy Campaign. Somehow two buttons have come loose. It was a tough battle.
Bob Hudson Posted December 1, 2010 #7 Posted December 1, 2010 For those having a hard time reading the letter, here's an enlargement, bad syntax and all. This is not a letter written by a native English-speaker.
mach1derful Posted December 1, 2010 Author #8 Posted December 1, 2010 How about that assault vest he's got too.
mach1derful Posted December 1, 2010 Author #9 Posted December 1, 2010 I assume that Foley may have actually written him back and sent him the signed photo. The seller is including the envelope with a letter he wrote up himself and including some things he had laying around in his collection. Good question is, how did Foley mail him a hat, bracelet, canteen cover, etc in a standard envelope?
1canpara Posted December 1, 2010 #10 Posted December 1, 2010 I was just starting to research Jack Foley when I tuned in here again and saw these responses.... This is why I love this forum! You guys are all natural-born Detectives!! Excellent work! Rick
chris3bs Posted December 1, 2010 #12 Posted December 1, 2010 I think Jack Foley has two signatures as well.
vostoktrading Posted December 1, 2010 #13 Posted December 1, 2010 I think Yoda from Star Wars must have written that letter.
posse Posted December 1, 2010 #14 Posted December 1, 2010 I think Yoda from Star Wars must have written that letter. :w00t: :hapy0004: Man, you don't believe what people are trying to sell these days... rgds Bart P
Broccoli Posted December 1, 2010 #15 Posted December 1, 2010 and so what about the assault vest? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...atchlink:top:en
posse Posted December 1, 2010 #16 Posted December 1, 2010 and so what about the assault vest? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...atchlink:top:en Not good at all! rgds Bart P
Squad leader Posted December 1, 2010 #17 Posted December 1, 2010 For those having a hard time reading the letter, here's an enlargement, bad syntax and all. This is not a letter written by a native English-speaker. This a literal translation from French to English language. How go you? is the literal transaltion of "Comment allez-vous?" which means "How are you?" Dan.
williamsmilitaryrelics Posted December 2, 2010 #18 Posted December 2, 2010 For those having a hard time reading the letter, here's an enlargement, bad syntax and all. cmjordan77 Posted December 2, 2010 #21 Posted December 2, 2010 Hmmm, Rooks Rike Engrish to me. Too bad Some international folks dont quite understand how the Engrish Language works.
USMC RAIDER COLLECTOR Posted December 2, 2010 #22 Posted December 2, 2010 Maybe Peggy decided to stop doing commercials for USA Prime Credit and has gone into the militaria field. " Here is Airborne group, you want for problem "
doyler Posted December 2, 2010 #23 Posted December 2, 2010 For those having a hard time reading the letter, here's an enlargement, bad syntax and all. This is not a letter written by a native English-speaker. I like the part about "MY FLASK WITH NAME" Its Foley but its the maker not the vet
USMCRECON Posted December 2, 2010 #24 Posted December 2, 2010 He must of got the SS jacket while serving duty in 2007 in the Internet Normandy Campaign. Somehow two buttons have come loose. It was a tough battle. Maybe he captured it from a German reenactor.
USMCRECON Posted December 2, 2010 #25 Posted December 2, 2010 I wanted to make some sort of witty comment on this eBay item but I'm afraid I'm just laughing too hard at the moment to concoct one. :w00t:
