Looks to be a modded LCT of sorts, some sort of landing craft with a steel deck welded onto it

Agreed Wow is right. That is pretty ingenious but not something I would want to land on lol.

Guys,

 

The caption reads:

 

US Army helicopter making mid-stream landing atop an armored troop carrier, or ATC, which, when equipped w. a flight deck, are referred to as the US Navy's smallest aircraft carriers.

 

Location: Vietnam

ATC is Armored Troop Carrier. It is a heavily modified LCM 6 landing craft. The armor is corigated metal to asorb RPG rounds. These things were modified for all soets of uses. Does it appear that the person standing by the gun turret with the barrel over their shoulder is female?

Most likely Medical. These vessels often were used as medical receiving stations. This helo could be comming in to pick a casuality up.
