Glenn_Janssens Posted September 1, 2012 #1 Posted September 1, 2012 I'm not so familiar with these kind of patches. Is this a wwii era patch?
doyler Posted September 2, 2012 #2 Posted September 2, 2012 There have been some very good copies coming out of eastern europe,THis one looks like one to me.
chcole1 Posted September 2, 2012 #3 Posted September 2, 2012 The lettering looks a little rough but what exactly makes you think it's a fake? Chris
doyler Posted September 2, 2012 #4 Posted September 2, 2012 The lettering looks a little rough but what exactly makes you think it's a fake? Chris THe overall construction. The back looks like the computor generated patches. Also as you stated the lettering looks odd as well.Just me but I dont like it.
Tonomachi Posted September 2, 2012 #5 Posted September 2, 2012 I could be wrong but this looks like an original Type 7 WW2 101st Abn Div SSI with attached tab. Whomever in Europe did copy the Type 7 SSI which is pictured below. Front of Copy
Glenn_Janssens Posted September 2, 2012 Author #7 Posted September 2, 2012 Thanks Guys for the help.

Glenn_Janssens Posted September 2, 2012 Author #9 Posted September 2, 2012 http://www.101airborneww2.com/eaglepatchcorner.html I know Mark Bando's site & forum for years. Everybody i think.
Teamski Posted September 2, 2012 #10 Posted September 2, 2012 We discussed this in another thread, but yours looks German made. Computer stitching uses a different pattern, usually diagonal. Nice patch! -Ski
Glenn_Janssens Posted September 2, 2012 Author #11 Posted September 2, 2012 It's not mine. I was going to buy it if the opinions were unanimous, but that isn't the case here.
Allan H. Posted September 3, 2012 #12 Posted September 3, 2012 It's not mine.I was going to buy it if the opinions were unanimous, but that isn't the case here. I wasn't all to concerned about posting on this patch but after having two different members asking me to comment, I figured that I'd go ahead and type in my opinion, not that it means any more than anyone else's. This SSI is NOT a reproduction. It is a WWII era piece. Of course there will be plenty of collectors, especially those from Germany, who believe this to be 100% German made. I am not in agreement, but the style definitely matches German made pieces. My point us that I firmly believe that there are US made SSI that have a similar snowy back. The XI Corps patch shown above is another example. I'm not convinced it is German made either. I guess the bottom line for me is to say that the patch is original and that it dates to the WWII period. It is not one commonly encountered. Assuming that the price wasn't insane, it would have been a good pick up. My dos centavos, Allan
Glenn_Janssens Posted September 3, 2012 Author #13 Posted September 3, 2012 Thanks for your input Allan. It can be purchased for a fair price at a reputable dealer. Asking price $65.

So, can we get a collabrative verification of these early WWII patches? I know that Keller ID's some of these as early WWII, and the 11th Corps patch doesn't feel like a German made patch to me either. Thoughts and other examples out there? -Ski
Glenn_Janssens Posted September 4, 2012 Author #15 Posted September 4, 2012 This patch intrigues me. And i want to learn more about it. So i bought it. The trigger to buy it came by the following statements...not commonly encountered and early WWII. Help & info highly welcome.
Glenn_Janssens Posted September 11, 2012 Author #16 Posted September 11, 2012 The patch is now in my collection!
Glenn_Janssens Posted September 13, 2012 Author #17 Posted September 13, 2012 Is this the same patch?
Allan H. Posted September 13, 2012 #18 Posted September 13, 2012 The SSI is the same one as the one you originally posted. It is still an original WWII era SSI! Allan
doyler Posted September 13, 2012 #19 Posted September 13, 2012 Glen Thanks for the better photos.I will agree its a WW2 era patch.Nice to see better pics of it
Glenn_Janssens Posted September 13, 2012 Author #20 Posted September 13, 2012 Thanks for the info Guys. But i have another question. When were these made?
Glenn_Janssens Posted September 13, 2012 Author #21 Posted September 13, 2012 Also, is there a reference book that has more information about this patch? Or a website?
doyler Posted September 13, 2012 #22 Posted September 13, 2012 Also, is there a reference book that has more information about this patch?Or a website? manayunkman Posted September 13, 2012 #24 Posted September 13, 2012 I think Bando did write a book on 101 patches. Hard to get.
patches Posted September 14, 2012 #25 Posted September 14, 2012 He did write at least 4 books, though none appear to be specifally are about patches only. Was there one earlier than these that are listed below? http://www.ranker.com/list/mark-bando-books-list/reference
