LtRGFRANK Posted May 10, 2012 #1 Posted May 10, 2012 I moved this topic here to see if I can get some response. I picked these up at antique store. I believe their boots worn by Red Cross,Hello girls, Etc in WWI. They are very small. The uppers are very thin and stiff. I didn't pay much so I'm not out if their not what I think their are. The laces and sole and heels look good.

The laces and sole and heels look good. In short, they could be. During WW1, the Army did not have a supply system that could accommodate women's field items and simply contracted with civilian companies for the rare instances when it was felt appropriate that the Army should supply items for women. More commonly however the Army would simply provide an allowance for the individual to purchase their own uniform items. There was not a lot of standardization, and while Nurses were provided their uniforms (first by the Red Cross, later by the Army), other organizations usually stipulated that women volunteering for "War Work" had to provide their own. Even this varied as WW1 Reconstruction Aides serving with the Army were required to purchase the "walking out" uniform if they were going overseas, but the uniform was optional for those who would be assigned stateside. This style of boot was very popular during WW1 and was worn by both women and men. It does show up in period photographs of WW1 era women. Chris
Bob Hudson Posted May 13, 2012 #3 Posted May 13, 2012 This style of boot was sold and used at least into the 1940's so these could even be post-WWII.
Too Much WW1 Militaria Posted May 17, 2012 #4 Posted May 17, 2012 Ditto what cwnorma and FS said. John
