skypilot6670 Posted September 14, 2019 #1 Posted September 14, 2019 One of the great Union Regiments. This badge list six battle honors. The soldier D.P.Davis is quoted in Brian Pohankas book The Vortex Of Hell ,Davis thought the Southerners looked very seedy- (we) asked them if they seen any yanks where they came from , but we dident get any answer from them.pg 216 Their are two photos of veterans wearing what looks like this badge in the above mentioned book pg.550 , pg 560. Brian Pohanka wrote in Vortex Of Hell . Their colorful Zouave uniform, precise maneuvers, effectiveness in combat, and steady bearing under fire won them universal respect and recognition. At Second Manassas the 5th lost 330 men and still soldiered on thru Antietam, Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville. One of the 5th most famous commanders G.K.Warren went on to Little Round Top and his place in history.
manayunkman Posted September 14, 2019 #2 Posted September 14, 2019 Spent a lot of time in Gettysburg. Thank you for posting this awesome badge. Will you be posting a picture of the back?
skypilot6670 Posted September 15, 2019 Author #3 Posted September 15, 2019 Hi manayunkman Thanks for your kind comment. I don’t have a photo of the back, and the badge is in a bank. It’s a t bar pin with a wire C loop for a catch. It also has a wire bail on each piece for a ribbon to go thru. Thanks again. Mike

USCapturephotos Posted October 9, 2019 #16 Posted October 9, 2019 Have loved corps badges for many, many years. Don't have many left in my collection but love to look. What an amazing piece! Paul
skypilot6670 Posted October 9, 2019 Author #17 Posted October 9, 2019 Hey Paul ,thanks again. I’ve always had a soft spot for Corps Badges. Used to do some artillery , but it got to heavy to carry to shows. Now all I do is wartime badges and medals. Mike
