A friend bought this medal "award of commendation" in a public auction recently in France.

 

I can not find similar one on Google... do you know the approximative date and do you have any information about it please ?

I think it's fairly modern, but that's a guess.

Yes, those are still issued..I was awarded one about 9 years ago...they're too big to wear though - the "medal" is larger than a silver dollar.
