This was in a mixed group of US military patches I recently picked up and don't recognize it at all. I looked through what US Army chevron reference material I could find but not pictured a diamond device. Any ideas?

Certainly looks pre-WW2. But the color and material looks Army

Thank you both. I agree that I have a feeling it is possibly 1920's or 30's vintage and probably army. Hadn't thought about ROTC, but maybe it could be a cadet rank?

It is an Army Air Force Aviation Cadet 1st Sergeant chevron. Check Emerson's book on Army chevrons. These were phased out after WWII when the independent USAF was created.

Oh cool, thank you Lee. I had checked different random articles from Mr Emerson online and through ASMIC but hadn't run across this one. I appreciate the ID!
