USMilitaria Posted August 15, 2018 Share #1 Posted August 15, 2018 Hello Everyone! Heres an amazing group I got a while ago. All of these items were brought back by one of my old teachers! He was stationed on the island on the USCG LORAN Station and told me that he went cave exploring in his spare time. He pointed out to me where he picked up most of the items and it was in a cave system on Hill 362B! This group consists of a US 105mm shell, a boat throttle from the wreck of the USS Sheepscot, a Japanese sake cup, a Japanese water station(that he found cracked in the cave and glued it back together), a rock from Mt. Suribachi, sand from nearby Marcus Island and many more! -Noah

USMilitaria Posted August 16, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted August 16, 2018 Definitely. I believe it’s now illegal to take items from Iwo Jima. Access is also heavily restricted on the island -Noah
PaulR Posted August 16, 2018 Share #10 Posted August 16, 2018 What an outstanding collection of items. You are so lucky to have them, along with their history. Is this veteran still alive?
USMilitaria Posted August 16, 2018 Author Share #11 Posted August 16, 2018 Thanks! Yes, he is still alive! I talk to him every so often and he tells me stories about the island! For example, when he found the ship throttle, he told me that he was in a swimming exercise and he saw this in the wreck underwater. He dove down a few times and ripped it out of the wreck! was really lucky to get all of these items! -Noah
