carrabassett Posted April 6, 2018 #1 Posted April 6, 2018 Got this today with a bunch of old British cap tallies and was hoping someone could ID it for me. I was wondering what era it was from and whether the green felt background was significant? Bullion embroidery is quite detailed and nicer than the picture shows. Thanks in advance for any help! Jim
Lee Ragan Posted April 6, 2018 #2 Posted April 6, 2018 I'd say it was pre WW2 because the eagles head is facing to his left. The green background is probably just the Navy blue backing that has faded over time to the green you now see. Just my humble opinion.
carrabassett Posted April 6, 2018 Author #4 Posted April 6, 2018 Thanks Lee. I looked under the strap and along the sides and it appears the felt is truly green, not faded. Did Naval aviation use green? Jim
Dave Posted April 6, 2018 #7 Posted April 6, 2018 This is a nice 1920's or 1930's example. I disagree that it's for the aviation greens, however. I believe the black felt faded over time, and it was orginally black.
