MMcollector Posted November 12, 2016 Share #1 Posted November 12, 2016 This morning I purchased USMC Yangtze Service Medal M.No. 1428 on eBay. The seller, who I have done business with before states it's attributed to a "2ND LT. C.O. SOLARO, USMC, 2ND BN, 12TH REGT, 3RD BRIGADE". But the little tag seems to have a D. Not a O. So I am searching for a C.O. Solaro or C.D. Solaro and I have had no luck so far. Can anyone shed some light on this Marine with the last name Solaro? I would really like to locate him on the USMC Rolls and confirm this Yangtze Service Medal. Thanks!
Bob Hudson Posted November 12, 2016 Share #2 Posted November 12, 2016 I can't find any Marine with that last name. I also did wild card searches for similar names and used several variations of the name with no success.
MMcollector Posted November 12, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted November 12, 2016 Thank you for your efforts Bob! I really do appreciate the time you took to look it up. I'm thinking it's now C. Di Solaro. I'll have to wait until I have it in hand and read the little tag.
Bob Hudson Posted November 12, 2016 Share #4 Posted November 12, 2016 I'm thinking it's now C. Di Solaro. I'll have to wait until I have it in hand and read the little tag. I tried that and other prefixes with and without the space between names,
MMcollector Posted April 13, 2017 Author Share #5 Posted April 13, 2017 USMF member EGA-DOG contacted me today about this USMC Yangtze who I couldn't locate the recipient. I trust the seller I purchased it from but no info could be found on a C.D. Solard. EGA-DOG mentioned a 2nd Lt Con D. Silard. Pulled up Silard's files and wow is all I have to say. Served in China during the same time period to have earn a Yangtze Service Medal. I believe I finally have the correct info. Here just a few documents from my initial research. Hoping to locate proof he was issued this Yangtze in the Rolls. With 255 results in the USMC Rolls, I have a lot of sort through.
