Bullseye881 Posted March 25, 2016 Author Share #2 Posted March 25, 2016 Among the items is a neat map case with a green beret painted on the front & several interesting maps/drawings showing regions of Vietnam.

63 RECON Posted March 25, 2016 Share #6 Posted March 25, 2016 wow! great stuff. I believe another forum member had some JJs from LTC Veazey. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/161746-jungle-jackets-of-the-last-xo-of-the-5th-sfga-in-country-vietnam-103069-122670/?hl=veazey
Stony Posted March 25, 2016 Share #7 Posted March 25, 2016 Quite an unusual ribbon rack and sets of wings because of the aerial gunner USAAF connection. Probably not a whole lot of these types out there.
63 RECON Posted March 25, 2016 Share #8 Posted March 25, 2016 Very illustrious career he had http://www.mccommonsfuneralhome.com/obits/obituary.php?id=587505
Bullseye881 Posted March 25, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted March 25, 2016 I am not sure what the missing ribbon would have been, as somebody else end up with all of his medals. Here is a little better photo of some of the plaques. I was not familiar with Eastern Construction, but I read on one website that the CIA was working with them at some point. Graybeard Posted March 27, 2016 Share #14 Posted March 27, 2016 Very interesting group spanning three conflicts. He seemed to have missed Korea. Any insight there?
SFMike Posted March 27, 2016 Share #15 Posted March 27, 2016 You get a CIB in SF, regardless of branch. Medics used to get a choice of CMB or CIB. Rank and service are issues. The Colonel was too high in rank to get a CIB. Forget the cutoff, Major, possibly. Also he probably never saw any ground combat. Group Commander is the head SF guy in country. A CIB is not an attendance award.

A CIB is not an attendance award. The cut off for a CIB is BDE level or lower service. Would think that equates to Group level or lower in SF. I have seen BDE CDRs (COL) and BN CDRs (LTC) get a CIB-- believe it is the same in SF. But maybe he never saw combat? Scott
firefighter Posted March 27, 2016 Share #17 Posted March 27, 2016 I didn't see him in the list of CIB's for SF personnel.
Bullseye881 Posted March 28, 2016 Author Share #18 Posted March 28, 2016 This is from Col. Veazey's obituary; "Upon his retirement Colonel Veazey was authorized to wear the following decorations and awards: American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Ribbon w/3 Bronze Stars, World War II victory Medal, Air Medal w/3 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal w/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Legion of Merit w/3 Oak Leaf clusters, Bronze Star Medal w/2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal w/1 Oak Leaf cluster, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Stars, Vietnamese Gallantry Cross w/Palm & Silver Star, Vietnamese Armed Force Honor Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device. In addition, Link was awarded U S Army Parachute Wings, Vietnamese Parachute Wings and Thailand Parachute Wings." So, yeah no CIB. Where any Special Forces units stationed in Iran or Bahrain in 1970? The reason I ask is Col. Veazey's mad case includes a map of Bahrain & a couple of pages of notes discussing the Iranian Air Force purchasing F-4's & wanting a recon force in the Indian Ocean. It was very sad to see the news that his stuff had gotten sold mistakenly however I was wanting to ask if you would be able to return these items back into our families hands for generations to come as I would be willing to do whatever mean’s necessary. Thank you for safeguarding these and he is missed very dearly. Please do let me know. Thank you so much. Very Respectfully
