WW2 M3 in action

Whoa... Reminds me of a story told to me by a 506th PIR D-Day vet. He came down into water, and pulled his trench knife out to saw off his leg bag which was weighing him down. His rifle was lost. He had his knife when he joined up with two troopers from the 508th. They came across some Germans in a MG nest by a hedge row. He stabbed one guy in the neck with the trench knife and the German squeezed the trigger on his MP40 as he died killing the three other members of his party. Those M3's were useful in hedgerow country...

Looks like a postmortem wound. No blood near the wound sight. (like I'm some kind of an expert, NOT) Great pic, though.

I'm no uniform expert. But, the poor guy w/ his M3 stuck in his neck, looks like a British Paratrooper. Difficult to tell from the B&W photo, but the light colored waist belt, smock, and helmet look British. I understand Germans had a similar helmet, and smock, but the belt has got me. Now I'm thinking two scenarios, 1) Brit Para was stabbed w/ his M3, after death by a passing German, or if it is a German, some American, saw he had a captured M3, and used it on him. Just speculation, but am not sure of the uniform. Please, some input! SKIP

Fairly certain he's German. Appears to be a Fallschirmjager (smock, trousers and helmet w/cover).

Only photo I could find to illustrate the similarities, so unsure of context, however note the pleat in the trousers highlighted in both photos (photo provided is from tumblr).

In addition, you can see highlights of camo on the smock in the original photo.
