patches Posted June 25, 2016 Author Share #39 Posted June 25, 2016 A self explanatory one as is usually the case, the higher unit will of course be the 40th Division, date will be sometime in 1967. Of special note is the Battalion Commander, H R Temple (standing to the far left next to sign), he was NG Bureau Chief when I was getting out of the Army in 1982, foto was in the ARMY GREEN BOOK of 1982. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_R._Temple,_Jr. By the way, anyone know what the S R F stands for under the unit legend? patches Posted July 19, 2016 Author Share #40 Posted July 19, 2016 GOLDEN DRAGONS A few troops of one of those provisional Aerial Gunner Platoons (more popularly known as door gunners) in early 1965 before leaving for South Vietnam, IE 1st Aerial Gunner Platoon 2nd, 3rd....4th etc etc. Formally titled Machine Gun Platoons, these units was drawn by troops from the 25th Infantry Division Schofield Barracks Hawaii, for TDY in South Vietnam starting in early 1963. These troops in this photo were from I think the 1st Battalion of the 14th Infantry, and while on TDY still kept their unit identity even though they were not titled as such as a unit of the 14th Infantry and where officially detached from their parent organization, and as far as we know shouldn't even be wearing the 25th Divisions patch once in country, MACV I would think if any shoulder patch was worn. Buffalo Grunt Posted July 20, 2016 Share #43 Posted July 20, 2016 OK, these photographs are of Fort Ord Murals. Two are painted on the 3rd Brigade HQs and one was painted on a wall inside one of the 3rd Battalion, 17th Infantry Barracks. 17th Infantry Crest and 21st Infantry Crest adorn the entrance. (Note Fort Ord was closed down in 1993 and this picture was taken in 2003) 3rd Brigade Strike Force! I painted this mural in 1987 and it stood tall until circa 2005 when it was painted over. Located at the 8th Street cutoff. (Picture taken in 1987) 3-17 Lightfighter Wall Mural. I have many, many more pictures in my collection, so stay tuned!
