Thanks Regards 5th Sure there where, these would be the M41 HBT fatiques this was the first type of HBT uniform's that replaced the blue work, IE fatique duty uniform. They where worn to a degree in the mediterranean theater, starting with the first troop's that came ashore in north africa in november 1942 ,it was worn by many troop's in north africa to include air corps unit's. Later it was to be seen in sicily and at salerno in italy, but having said this, the standard wool shirt ,wool trousers , and M41 field jacket was at this time the predominate uniform. patches Posted June 29, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 29, 2011 Hi Patches, Thanks for your answer. Do you have any pictures? 5th No i don't. do you have alot of books on the army in WWII ? if so just peruse the the photo's from the north african, sicily, and the early period of the italian campaign and you will come across and spot this uniform being worn. It might not exactly be a GI from the texas division, but it will show the uniform in question, as no one unit had a commodity on wearing this type. Talking here in this topic about the M41 HBT , makes me think about the movie, A walk in the sun, the one about a platoon of GI's during the amphibious landing in the gulf of salerno. These where troops from the 36th infantry division, in this movie they are all wearing the M41 Hbt fatiques shirt and trousers, but here you must understand that as far as i know the standard uniform for the salerno landing was the wool, with M41 jacket, there will be of course, men wearing the M41 HBT uniform here and there, even if its just the trousers by themselves. So it would seem to me the wearing of the M41 HBT fatiques and the later M43 in both the MTO and later the ETO in the field, was more of a personel call or inclination by those men who where seen wearing these type's, the reason's which could be a few. ustpatcher1a Posted July 1, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 1, 2015 All of my father's photos and photo from my 36th ID research NEVER showed HBT uniform wear. It was the wool uniform in all cases. I would be leary of wearing HBT for that unit and being subject to reenactor's FARB attacks.
2ndInf.Div. Posted July 7, 2015 Share #6 Posted July 7, 2015 ^^he nailed it. Wools and field jackets were generally the predominate uniform in the ETO. HBT's were used to an extent by some units, but it really depends on the unit. I don't believe the 36th was one that really used them often. dogface44 Posted July 8, 2015 Share #7 Posted July 8, 2015 Hello, I have and have seen many pictures of T-Patchers in Italy wearing HBTs, but not in combat. Most likely at camp behind the lines or during R&R. http://texasmilitaryforcesmuseum.yuku.com/topic/1323#.VZzVOrVdTQI
