kyhistorian01 Posted April 3, 2011 #1 Posted April 3, 2011 I have had this insignia for quite a while, but I have never been able to determine what it is, or what branch. It looks like it might be Public Health Service, but the rest of the insignia has me stumped. Any help would be appriciated. Robert
Dave Posted April 3, 2011 #2 Posted April 3, 2011 I'm stumped on the flag...the up-side-down chevrons could be WW1 service...the bottom device is USPHS...strange! Dave
gwb123 Posted April 3, 2011 #3 Posted April 3, 2011 The flag makes me think it is more for a steam ship line than military. Perhaps a medical officer or assistant for a commercial line.
Dave Posted April 3, 2011 #4 Posted April 3, 2011 In a google search, I found this shoulder board that SARGE posted up here. Can't find the post though...hmmm????
Dave Posted April 3, 2011 #5 Posted April 3, 2011 Here's the thread... http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...showtopic=26477
Dave Posted April 3, 2011 #6 Posted April 3, 2011 And here's the USPHS insignia in wear... (Sorry guys, I couldn't resist posting that picture!)
Teamski Posted April 3, 2011 #7 Posted April 3, 2011 You got me going there for a moment, hehehehe.... -Ski

Robert It is Public Health Service; the chevrons each indicate 6 months overseas service in the AEF WW1. USPHS uses a distinguishing mark with crossed flags for Quarantine Inspector. I'm betting this is for an assistant or junior Quarantine Inspector. Garth
KurtA Posted April 15, 2011 #9 Posted April 15, 2011 Learned something new with this one. Had I seen one at a show, resonably priced, I would have jumped all over it (as I really like this sort of stuff), but it's nice now knowing exactly what it is. Kurt
