Just got this in the mail last night and have been looking for info on the web, and I am coming up with nothing. I maybe looking in the wrong places, So any info would be great.

Worn in WW2 by enlisted instructors at the Maritime Service Center, Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY. Worn on the left sleeve of the jumper at local level only.

Here is an image Disney artists did for the Sheepshead Bay Training Station, U.S. Maritime Service. This design was created in the fall of 1942.

After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the Coast Guard purchased over 100 acres of land on the eastern tip of Brooklyn for a training center. Three-quarters of the property was set aside for the Sheepshead Bay Maritime Service Station. The purpose of the base was to train seamen for service in the Merchant Marine.

 

The educational program was divided between preliminary and advanced instruction, and over the course of four weeks, trainees received schooling in twenty different subjects. The six branches of advanced instruction included: Deck, Engine, Cooks, Pursers, Hospital Corps, and the Chief Steward. Emergency training included how to prevent shipboard fire, the use of fire-fighting equipment, how to use lifeboats and rescue gear, breathing equipment, and how to swim under burning oil. Recruits also received gunnery instruction.

 

The Coast Guard administered the training program until mid-summer 1942, when a Presidential Order transferred operation of Merchant Marine training to the Training Organization of the War Shipping Administration.

 

Looks like a loose version of the ship on your patch was reproduced in the background of the Disney design.
