all-bull Posted July 3, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 3, 2010 Hello, For years, I always thought this was a NY policeman. But I just realized he is wearing one of the Tiffany & Co made Bronze Marksman Badges, similar to the one I pictured. He is also wearing 24 NY on his collars, and some sort of shoulder rank and cap badge. I think he also has a sword on his side. The picture is much clearer in real life. I cannot find any information on a 24th NY Infantry Regt that is not a Civil War unit. What unit could this man belong to, and what era? Does anyone have a cap badge like this for sale? Thanks! mars&thunder Posted July 3, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 3, 2010 all-bull... You are correct in stating that the 24th NY was not regiment in the time frame associated with a type 2 NYNG marksman badge. That regiment was disbanded in 1874. However there was a 24th Separate Company of Infantry located in Middletown NY that did exist in the era of the marksman badge pictured. That badge was awarded from 1893 - 1897. Regards - Maraplan
KurtA Posted July 4, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 4, 2010 Based on the hat, I would say this dates 1895 to very early 1900's. Kurt
