Edwin K Dollerhide 0-1011064 3rd Platoon Company B 735th Tank Battalion KIA 15 September 1944 Edwin Dollerhide was Born 4 September 1912 in Galveston, Texas. He enlisted in the Texas National Guard 18 November 1940 and was assigned to 124th Cavalry Regiment, 36th Division. At some point he was commissioned as an Officer. He would then be assigned to the 3rd Platoon as the Platoon Leader, Company B, 735th Tank Battalion. The 735th Tank Battalion would land on Utah Beach on 13 July 1944 and immediately be assigned to the 5th Infantry Division. Co. B. would be assigned with the 10th Infantry Regiment. They would fight through France together. September 1- Fuel and Maintenance, 1 Platoon moved towards Verdun September 2- Moved from Epoye to just North of Verdun September 3/4- No Movement, Maintenance and refueling September 5- Moved South East of Verdun September 6- No Movement September 7-Moved to Chambley September 8/9/10- Prepared for crossing the Moselle River September 11- Crossed the Moselle River September 12- Secured the Bridgehead at Arnaville September 13- Remained in the Same position. Artillery killed 6 and wounded 4. September 14- Same Position September 15- Attack of Hill 396 The attack was scheduled to begin at 0900 hours. At 0830 hours artillery began to hit Hill 396 and slowly pushed back to the other side of the hill to prevent the Germans reinforcing the hill. Co. B, 735th Tank Battalion pushed straight from Hill 386 toward Hill 396. Co. C, 735th Tank Battalion was on the right flank pushing the south side of Hill 396. At 0900 hours Co. B began their assault advancing 300 yards ahead of Co I, 10th Infantry Regiment. The tanks opened fire on German pill boxes and the Infantry closed the gap and began throwing grenades taking out the entrenched German positions one by one. By 1330 hours Hill 396 was captured and Co. B tanks established their defensive positions. During the Attack of Hill 396 1Lt. Edwin K Dollerhide was struck in the heart and head by small arms fire. During the month of September the 735th suffered 56 Casualties KIA- 1 Officer, 12 Enlisted WIA - 5 Officers, 25 Enlisted MIA - 3 Enlisted 1Lt.
