Copperdragon3 Posted July 19, 2023 #1 Posted July 19, 2023 I recently won this cap at auction, which had it listed as a Confederate veterans chaplain kepi. I didn’t pay much for it, but I’m thinking it’s not actually from the Civil War. It does have age and wear evidence, as well as an old ink written I.D. inside the sweatband. I can’t find anything on the web about the individual. Can anyone help me identify what exactly this cap is? I really do think it’s old, but not Civil War. Any info would be appreciated!

iron bender Posted July 19, 2023 #4 Posted July 19, 2023 The use of an original 'dug' kepi buckle is a nice touch.
4th Miss Cav Posted July 20, 2023 #5 Posted July 20, 2023 Agree with the guys post above, definitely a reenactment piece. They even “farbed” it up more with the wreath and cross on the front
Copperdragon3 Posted July 20, 2023 Author #6 Posted July 20, 2023 Wow, I really appreciate all the knowledge; I’m rather a greenhorn when it comes to authenticating these kind of items so thank you all! I’m not too disappointed, since I already thought it wasn’t genuine but it’s nice to know what I have.
