utica3 Posted June 8, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 8, 2023 Hello Folks. I recently completed another belt rig for my collection. This rig is a pattern 1872 Palmer brace system cavalry belt with E. Gaylord civil war contractor large frame revolver (1860 Colt army or 1858 Remington army .44 caliber) holster. The rig includes: A pattern 1872 Palmer brace system belt with the oval US buckle, Saber hangers, The Model 1872 Dyer cartridge box (very rare), A civil war J. Davy and Co, cap box (wool removed), and A E. Gaylord holster The pattern 1872 holster for the .50 caliber Remington Rolling Block pistol issued with the Palmer brace system belt is very hard to find and expensive, My thinking was that a large frame holster from the civil war that could hold a model 1871 Colt Richards Conversion or converted Remington .44 caliber revolver could be a substitute for the 1872 pattern holster. It is my understanding that the US army used the converted .44 cartridge Colt and Remington revolvers for a short period after the civil war. I welcome any comments or feedback.
