Old Marine Posted July 31, 2022 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2022 WWII, Enlisted man's collar insignia for the dress blue uniform. This EGA would be worn in the wearer's left side
Spearhead Posted July 31, 2022 Share #3 Posted July 31, 2022 I believe this is 1920’s era.

Spearhead Posted July 31, 2022 Share #5 Posted July 31, 2022 Review this thread. It shows some 1920s era and then later 1937 pattern which (used pre WWII into 1950’s).
b_hinch Posted August 1, 2022 Share #6 Posted August 1, 2022 This is a 1920s era collar emblem like Spearhead said. The nut on the back is obviously not original!
Dutchoven Posted September 5, 2022 Share #7 Posted September 5, 2022 I found this yesterday in Guantanamo while snorkeling. Could it be Spanish American War or something later?
Basic Rifleman Posted September 5, 2022 Share #8 Posted September 5, 2022 What a fantastic find! For those of us who enjoy "salty" emblems it doesn't get much better than this one.... These are referred to as "P1892" Eagle Globe and Anchors, and were worn in the early 1900's.
Outtair Posted September 5, 2022 Share #9 Posted September 5, 2022 Great historic find Dutchoven, I wish I was diving with you. Since this EGA and the token you posted have been in low oxygen salt water for over a 100 years you need to neutralize and stabilize them or they are going to rust and deteriorate. Watch videos on you tube and search cleaning on the web. Another tip, if you want to keep finding these goodie's keep your dive spot a secret, I think there is a lot more down there. Brig Posted September 6, 2022 Share #10 Posted September 6, 2022 Pattern 1892, but this particular variant is often traced more the the early 1900s...sometimes referred to as the P1908
Dutchoven Posted October 17, 2022 Share #11 Posted October 17, 2022 I found these this weekend in Guantanamo. Rough shape but I think both are precursors to the EGA. What does the group say?
Brig Posted October 17, 2022 Share #12 Posted October 17, 2022 Both Marine Corps buttons...considered to be the oldest insignia in continuous use by the US military
usmcaviator Posted October 27, 2022 Share #13 Posted October 27, 2022 I never "date EGAs" until I can see them in person and get to know them better.
warguy Posted October 27, 2022 Share #14 Posted October 27, 2022 Mike I had to read that twice before I got it. I sometimes embarrass myself but laughed when this sank in.
Dutchoven Posted November 22, 2023 Share #15 Posted November 22, 2023 I found another EGA. Super lucky find. They are slightly different. One has slightly thinner wings. Which one is older?
Brig Posted November 23, 2023 Share #16 Posted November 23, 2023 One on the left/bottom is the older emblem
