Big Bear Posted March 3, 2022 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2022 I posted this in another section. According to a dealer of items of this era this is likely a canteen that was shop or factory modified to be used by a troop who did not need to carry a canteen on a sling. A likely use would be by a wagon driver or other such transport vehicle. This might be correct as the back of the canteen has a leather pad that could limit damage from rubbing the boards of a wagon in transit and the hanger looks like it would fit on a rope or cable. Any thoughts on this are welcome as I only posted a possible idea of what this is. I do not know for sure.

CAC1901 Posted May 10, 2022 Share #3 Posted May 10, 2022 Seems to me I have seen another 1 or 2 like it in the past. The green paint on the metal is nice.
Big Bear Posted May 11, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted May 11, 2022 This is my post under P-59A in the field gear section. The thinking is this was surplus around the turn of the last century and converted into a day hiker canteen that clipped to a belt. Any thoughts on this?
