WWI 28th Division Painted Medic Helmet - Pvt. Howard Jackson

I was at an estate sale today and I picked up this WWI 28th helmet.

It is ID'd to Pvt. Howard Jackson.

I also got the uniform to go with it.

I traced the estate owner Edwin W. Jackson back to his Father who was Pvt. Howard Jackson.

Here is the uniform.

It is not in the best of shape but I wanted to keep them together.

I am hopefully going to get a photo of him from my 28th book and then I will post it.

Thanks Eric.

I guess I should have titled this one "WWI Medic Helmet" as he was part of the 28th Infantry (109th Sanitary Detachment) during the war.

Last photo.

I got this from the 28th 5 volume set.

Unfortunately he must have been absent on picture day as he was not in the individual photos.

BTW, I got this book set from the vet's son.

I spoke to the Vets son yesterday and he is planning on giving me his discharge papers.

That will complete the grouping nicely.

Congrats Mark, and great speedy research. I am glad you are now the caretaker.

I believe the individual photos were taken before going overseas, so he's most likely missing because he was a replacement.

Nice helmet!..any chance we can see a few pics of his bringback german helmet that you mentioned elsewhere..maybe a shot of both helmets together would be nice to see...mike

Thank you for the kind comments.

Sure Mike.

Here is the German helmet and the canteen I also got from the vet's son.

The canteen is unit marked but doesnt quite jive with the vet's service.

I assume he picked it up from someone else because the vet's son told me for sure that his father brought it home from the war with him.

It is a shame it is missing two of the 3 pins but the liner is still there.
