anton67 Posted October 6, 2017 #1 Posted October 6, 2017 I was at an estate sale today and I picked up this WWI 28th helmet. It is ID'd to Pvt. Howard Jackson. I also got the uniform to go with it. I traced the estate owner Edwin W. Jackson back to his Father who was Pvt. Howard Jackson.
anton67 Posted October 6, 2017 Author #5 Posted October 6, 2017 Here is the uniform. It is not in the best of shape but I wanted to keep them together.
anton67 Posted October 6, 2017 Author #12 Posted October 6, 2017 Notice the medical service matches his collar tab.
anton67 Posted October 7, 2017 Author #13 Posted October 7, 2017 I am hopefully going to get a photo of him from my 28th book and then I will post it.
anton67 Posted October 7, 2017 Author #15 Posted October 7, 2017 Thanks Eric. I guess I should have titled this one "WWI Medic Helmet" as he was part of the 28th Infantry (109th Sanitary Detachment) during the war.
anton67 Posted October 7, 2017 Author #16 Posted October 7, 2017 Here he is on the 109th Sanitary Detachment Roster.
anton67 Posted October 7, 2017 Author #18 Posted October 7, 2017 Last photo. I got this from the 28th 5 volume set. Unfortunately he must have been absent on picture day as he was not in the individual photos. BTW, I got this book set from the vet's son.
anton67 Posted October 8, 2017 Author #19 Posted October 8, 2017 I spoke to the Vets son yesterday and he is planning on giving me his discharge papers. That will complete the grouping nicely.
Blacksmith Posted October 8, 2017 #20 Posted October 8, 2017 Congrats Mark, and great speedy research. I am glad you are now the caretaker.
aef1917 Posted October 8, 2017 #22 Posted October 8, 2017 I believe the individual photos were taken before going overseas, so he's most likely missing because he was a replacement.
sgtdorango Posted October 8, 2017 #23 Posted October 8, 2017 Nice helmet!..any chance we can see a few pics of his bringback german helmet that you mentioned elsewhere..maybe a shot of both helmets together would be nice to see...mike
anton67 Posted October 9, 2017 Author #24 Posted October 9, 2017 Thank you for the kind comments. Sure Mike. Here is the German helmet and the canteen I also got from the vet's son. The canteen is unit marked but doesnt quite jive with the vet's service. I assume he picked it up from someone else because the vet's son told me for sure that his father brought it home from the war with him.
anton67 Posted October 9, 2017 Author #25 Posted October 9, 2017 It is a shame it is missing two of the 3 pins but the liner is still there.
