Ronnie Posted March 1, 2016 #1 Posted March 1, 2016 This is my really minty A8 O mask. The bladder is solid and very supple. Still has some talc on it from storage. About as nice A8 as you're likely to find. In fact I looked on the net and every one of these I found the bladder was ruptured. I have mi e listed in the for sale section.
littlebuddy Posted March 1, 2016 #2 Posted March 1, 2016 Could you take a close up pic of the front of the mask please to show any lettering in the rubber Thanks LB
Ronnie Posted March 1, 2016 Author #3 Posted March 1, 2016 I will do my best little buddy. It will be later today before I can get that done. Ronnie
Ronnie Posted March 1, 2016 Author #4 Posted March 1, 2016 Here are some more photos LB. I think you can see all the info. I have a question for you. There is what I guess is a date.....it shows "August 1972" what the heck is that? Certainly they were not using this mask in 1972. Thanks. Ronnie
Ronnie Posted March 1, 2016 Author #6 Posted March 1, 2016 Photo of the date I mentioned above. Ronnie
38Driver Posted March 2, 2016 #8 Posted March 2, 2016 Actually I saw listed on eBay some of the A-8 mask listed as 1960s production just recently. Could be they were still in use somewhere.
Ronnie Posted March 2, 2016 Author #9 Posted March 2, 2016 Holy cow! I didn't know that and never saw this date until today. That's crazy. Thanks for that info 38 driv. Guess I'll have to drop the price. Ronnie
mr_lits Posted March 2, 2016 #10 Posted March 2, 2016 These were produced for decades after the war and used well up into the 70s on many old birds. The WWII vintage A8s will have leather straps and the green color of the bags is usually more OD, also bakalite nose piece is a different and often black plastic. You are absolutely correct about the breather bags, finding an original still in descent shape is a rare thing. They certainly weren't made to last. Here is a wartime example for comparison.
Ronnie Posted March 2, 2016 Author #11 Posted March 2, 2016 Thanks mr_lits for the info. Starting to think I made a very bad deal. Serves me right for not researching the item before I purchased it. Can you please give me a price I should ask for this piece. Thanks for your help. Ronnie
