skir Posted January 28, 2016 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2016 Slow day at work so decided to run some flags to the DAV for turn in. Small shop that has not given much up in the past came thru today. 4 Zippos and a Phil.made plaque. The good part was a real Vietnam engraved zippo in the lot, which in this neck of the woods are rarely seen. Lot is from USN Corpsman that seems to have started and ended his service attached to the USMC. The zippo reads "Doc Mac" DELTA CO 1/7, B.A.S 1/7, Ist Med.BN on front and "VIETNAM 68-69 w/ Corpsman insignia on the reverse. the other three are post Vietnam USN ship lighters. Glad to have found an Vietnam engraved lighter with a named grouping.
Mitch Posted January 29, 2016 Share #2 Posted January 29, 2016 Nice snags for a road trip. It looks like he started and finished as a Corpsman. I can't see the date code for the zippo. Does it match the date on the lighter? Regards, Mitch
skir Posted January 30, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted January 30, 2016 Mitch, The date on the lighter is 1967, IIII ZIPPO III
Mitch Posted January 30, 2016 Share #4 Posted January 30, 2016 Mitch, The date on the lighter is 1967, IIII ZIPPO III Oh, thats is good. That matches up fine. Real Nam lighters are tough to find and in my opinion under rated.Though I see some go for some good money sometimes. what amazes me is the price difference between a Nam zippo and the period engraved Japanese made ones.
