kfields Posted October 10, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 10, 2015 My dad picked this up 15 years ago and never really new what its' purpose is. It is a substantial piece of solid brass or bronze. Our guess is it was affixed to the ship at its construction and only parted ways when the ship was scrapped. The plaque probably weights more that 10 pounds, is 7 1/4 inches across and 7/8 inches thick. I'm curious what it's purpose was. If mounted on the ship, where would it have been mounted? Thanks! hink441 Posted October 10, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 10, 2015 I believe these were made to use on plaques. The plaques would be given to VIPs and crew. This plaque is older than 1980. In 1980 the Coronado was re-designated a Command Ship. Chris
TheMariner Posted October 11, 2015 Share #3 Posted October 11, 2015 I am with chris on this one, look at my for sale items and there is a plaque with a heavy metal piece like this. Yours appears to be a bit older then mine but you will be able to see an example!
