strawberry 9 Posted September 29, 2015 #1 Posted September 29, 2015 Just picked up a 1943 Jerry can today that has a reddish/rust colored paint job over the OD. The paint isn't new and I was wondering if this could/would have been done in the field for any reason. Thanks!
strawberry 9 Posted September 29, 2015 Author #2 Posted September 29, 2015 Also has yellow lettering (stenciled) that says "Gasoline and oil for handybilly(?)".
268th C.A. Posted September 29, 2015 #3 Posted September 29, 2015 no, some one did that after its Military life.
strawberry 9 Posted October 1, 2015 Author #4 Posted October 1, 2015 Thanks 268th C.A. Looks like it's safe to strip or repaint it back to OD.
BROBS Posted October 1, 2015 #5 Posted October 1, 2015 correct.. sometimes the primer underneath the OD is red but not the can itself and it would have had no painted lettering (normally).
