Justin Posted September 29, 2012 Share #101 Posted September 29, 2012 The strap, it was found on the bottom of a 1951 - 52 dated M41. Is this WWII or Korean War era? Thanks

THAT GUY Posted September 29, 2012 Share #104 Posted September 29, 2012 Justin, It has a ww1 style buckle seen on early war depot p41 haversacks and a flat tip also seen in early war stuff. In my opinion it looks like a cut off etool strap from a haversack. Im pretty sure its from ww2. Sam
Justin Posted September 29, 2012 Share #105 Posted September 29, 2012 Justin, It has a ww1 style buckle seen on early war depot p41 haversacks and a flat tip also seen in early war stuff. In my opinion it looks like a cut off etool strap from a haversack. Im pretty sure its from ww2. Sam Thanks Sam, it's a lot longer than the E Tool strap on the body of the bags I own. I have a bag missing a E Tool strap and I was thinking of using this to replace it. Maybe I shouldn't do that anymore?
THAT GUY Posted September 29, 2012 Share #106 Posted September 29, 2012 Thanks Sam, it's a lot longer than the E Tool strap on the body of the bags I own. I have a bag missing a E Tool strap and I was thinking of using this to replace it. Maybe I shouldn't do that anymore? No problem! I am far from extremely knowledgeable about Marine Corps gear however. I have a early war depot haversack back at my dorm that I will compare your strap to. From memory this strap looks a little darker than the haversack strap. Mine is kind of tanish. Also, maybe your strap is a early bedroll strap? It would be longer than the strap on the haversack I do believe. And as a rule of thumb I don't replace anything unless I'm using a trashed original for reenacting. craig_pickrall Posted September 29, 2012 Share #107 Posted September 29, 2012 It is the early version of the bed roll strap. Keep it as is. You need two alike for the pack or 4 if you do the full transport setup. It should be a little shorter than the later straps.
craig_pickrall Posted September 30, 2012 Share #108 Posted September 30, 2012 Look at post 11 and 13. You can see the square buckles and that is the first veraion of the M1941 pack.
RustyCanteen Posted September 30, 2012 Share #109 Posted September 30, 2012 Craig is correct, it is a bed roll strap.
