Brig Posted January 23, 2022 Share #429 Posted January 23, 2022 USMC bar with 'Asiatic' clasp on the Victory Medal. Only about 1000 Asiatic clasps were awarded and were for port calls in Siberia...

That Asiatic clasp is outstanding and the USMC Expeditionary mini is cool too. Very clean looking group of mini's!
Jtski Posted January 31, 2022 Share #431 Posted January 31, 2022 Hello, My first set of attributable minis to Major General John K. Hester, USAF. A fighter pilot who served in the CBI theatre including service in China with the 14th Air Force under Chennault as A-3 with the 68th Composite Wing, the military Flying Tigers and successors to the American Volunteer Group. He completed 50 combat missions in China and likely received his single Air Medal after 25 missions and DFC after 50 missions as per CBI guidelines during the War. A fascinating career culminating with command of the 17th Air Force in Germany which was cut short due to a parachute accident from which he died of his injuries. He subsequently received a posthumous Air Force Distinguished Service Medal for his command. The accompanying photo wearing his minis is pre Legion of Merit, unknown when he received his first LoM. The link below is to his bio and a great presentation on the Major General's service from the militaria dealer who sold the medals on behalf of the family. I've got one of those ultra mini stars, too. It's also in the same configuration- Silver Star medallion in all bronze on a Bronze Star ribbon. I'm trying to find any information on these extra small medals- maker, era, anything really. The one I bought and a DSC in a grouping display were the only US ones of this size I saw at Wilmington last week. There was a rack of this 1cm/ 3/8" size that were foreign that I couldn't ID off the top of my head. Might have been Spanish under Franco. Is it possible to get a rough era from this rack? It looks to be contemporary with the others, so... 1950s? It's about the same width as the "ribbons" on the British mini ribbon bar. Below pic is my little guy with a Marine GC and a British South Atlantic Medal in miniature, plus a full sized bar and a mini bar for comparison, all from last Friday. Also hunting info on the British mini bars. I have three different. I still need just the pair and Mons Star versions.

Sweazy21 Posted October 27, 2022 Share #437 Posted October 27, 2022 All part of a group that was split up earlier last year. Mini military order of the dragon and victory belonging to Commander William Hugh McGrann. William was born on October 26, 1869 in Tennessee. He graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1891 and served until 1907. Of his 16 years of active duty, he spent 12 of those at sea. He then went in to practice with Kirlin, Woolsey and Hickox eventually becoming a member. After the US joined in the war, William return to active duty serving in the 3rd naval district, and then at sea as an aid to Admiral William S Simms. aerialbridge Posted October 27, 2022 Share #438 Posted October 27, 2022 What a shame that some clown cannibalized that mini rack. I never saw a mini Order of the Dragon. Strange that the cannibal left the medal behind but took the ribbon.

Yeah, I’ve seen one other miniature although it’s suspension looked more like the full size instead of just a loop.
Jtski Posted December 19, 2022 Share #440 Posted December 19, 2022 This set of minis came with a USAF ribbon bar that had further service in Korea and various Expeditionary operations. I seem to recall some chose to wear only personal decorations and pertinent campaign awards on their mess dress, not sure if that was an official or personal choice. Basic Rifleman Posted December 30, 2022 Share #441 Posted December 30, 2022 A likely unique combination of early U.S. Navy miniature medals by BB&B. Note: the WWII service medal was added during WWII to the USN Captain who was called back into service in an administrative role.
Sweazy21 Posted April 10, 2023 Share #442 Posted April 10, 2023 Two recent additions to my collection. Unidentified group to New York National Guard vet. Mini medal group & bracelet belonging to Lt Colonel Frances Ward Parke Frances was born in New York City, NY on March 7, 1897. In June 1916, he enlisted in the NYNG and did see some service on the Mexican border. About 8 months after the US joined the war, he left for France and served with the 4th Corps. Francis would then serve on occupation duty until returning home in July 1919 and was honorably discharged. In the 1920s and 30s it was a hotel manager of various hotels and would eventually move to Pennsylvania to continue his career. 1942 Francis returned the army serving overseas from 1944 to 1945. He helped train troops in New Guinea before taking part of the invasion of the Philippines in 1945 with the 37th infantry. In May 1945 he returned to the US and would be separated from active duty in July. Frances retired from the Army in 1957. He passed away in 1992. They aren't in the regulation style (should be four-four-four) but I don't like the way that looks. UltraThin, who has mounted all of my medals for ages, said they'd be happy to do them in whatever configuration I wanted since I was retired. So...two rows of six each. I'm really pleased with how they came out. I agree, not a fan of the Navy's 4x way of mounting. Should go old-school and have them do minis in a single row of 12... Sweazy21 Posted November 16, 2023 Share #450 Posted November 16, 2023 Numbered mini WW1 New York service medal belonging to Rene Silz. Rene was born in Paris, France on March 10, 1891. He immigrated to the United States in 1910. In 1914 after the outbreak of the war, he returned to France and enlisted in the French army. He first served with the Third Regiment of Chausseurs, and later was detailed as French interpreter to the First Scotch Grays of the British army. Later he was returned to his original command and was wounded at the battle of Armentiega. He was sent to a French hospital where he remained until his discharge. After two years of service, he returned to the United States and joined the United States Army as a private in Company C, Thirty-seventh Infantry. Rene return to France serving in headquarters company, 358? Infantry? From June 22, 1918 until he was discharged on February 7, 1919. What is unique about this specific miniature is that it’s numbered and I believe French manufactured as well. Rene more than likely had it made on one of his trips to France, after receiving his full size medal.
