gap Posted October 17, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2013 Does this look right for a WW2 era patch? The lightning bolt seems wrong to me, but I am still learning!

Tom Pearcy Posted October 17, 2013 Share #4 Posted October 17, 2013 Does the shape of the bolt help determine if it is WWII vintage or not? I heard skinny bolt is WWII vintage, fat bolt is post war. Still wondering.
gap Posted October 17, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted October 17, 2013 Yes, I've heard that too about the bolt. However, the 20th was disbanded shortly after the war, correct?
B229 Posted October 17, 2013 Share #6 Posted October 17, 2013 Yes, I've heard that too about the bolt. However, the 20th was disbanded shortly after the war, correct? Correct. The 20th Armored Div was inactivated in 1946. The width of the bolt is just a manufacturer's variation. The SSI is WWII production.

Still wondering. There is some truth to it, but there are so many exceptions that you have to take it case by case. For example, most of your German made examples have thin bolts as well. -Ski
