Guest bridgeendfarm Posted April 24, 2008 #1 Posted April 24, 2008 My friend found this item while Metal Detecting and I am wondering what it might of been for. It matches a WW1 Army uniform button. Does anyone know what it is, where on uniform it was used and what was attached to it. Thanks I appreciate any help
IMPERIAL QUEST Posted April 24, 2008 #2 Posted April 24, 2008 It looks like it may have been intended to hold a pocket watch while fastened to a belt or possibly a whistle.
jgawne Posted April 24, 2008 #3 Posted April 24, 2008 I don't recognize it, but it sure would be a very nice whistle chain clip to hang from the pocket. I shall have to go look at some period catalogs and see if that is a private purchase item. where was it found?
Guest bridgeendfarm Posted April 25, 2008 #4 Posted April 25, 2008 it was found in Northern California here is a couple more pics. It measures 1 1/2 inches long and 1/2 inch at the widest part of the circle. Maybe it is older than WW1

KASTAUFFER Posted April 29, 2008 #9 Posted April 29, 2008 Is it a clip for a sword hanger ? Looks like one . Kurt
IMPERIAL QUEST Posted April 29, 2008 #10 Posted April 29, 2008 Have an idea of era? Hi, I am thinking 1910-15, but I could be off by a few years either way. I say this because years ago, I unearthed a very similiar object near the Texas coast on the site of the 1st. Aero Squadron that was established in 1913 in Texas City, Texas. I found many military-related and non-military related objects there, everything from buttons to ammunition, and period pocket watches to womens ear rings. Is it a clip for a sword hanger ? Looks like one . Kurt Hmmmmm...you may be on to something there Kurt.
