Gary Cain Posted March 12, 2008 #2 Posted March 12, 2008 Hello Chris, Here are a few from my collection. I tried to get the widest variety for you. Gary 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 This is a Navy insignia 10 This is a 1st Lt on the uniform of a WWI aviator I have. Sterling but no makers hallmark but a very nice drop in pin assembly. the back
Gary Cain Posted March 12, 2008 #3 Posted March 12, 2008 the pin is marked Sterling, the letter W within a circle and the number 3 within a circle. 10
cwnorma Posted March 13, 2008 Author #4 Posted March 13, 2008 Thanks for posting these! This reference is off to a great start! Chris
USMCRECON Posted March 20, 2008 #5 Posted March 20, 2008 This is a pair of 2LT rank. I only detatched one from the uniform to show the back. I believe these might be French made. the metal is exceptionally thin and they just sort of have that French-made look about them.
USMCRECON Posted March 20, 2008 #6 Posted March 20, 2008 These are also affixed to a uniform (87th Regiment late WW-I) so I only unpinned one of them to show the backside. These have a drop-in type safety catch on them. You can see that they are much thicker than the 2LT ones previously posted.
USMCRECON Posted March 20, 2008 #7 Posted March 20, 2008 This set is solid backet sterling silver marked. It also has a couple other marks that I am unfamiliar with. This pair have the mounting pins running north-south as opposed to east-west like most Capt rank
USMCRECON Posted March 20, 2008 #8 Posted March 20, 2008 Another pair of Captain's rank; these have side-load safety clasps and NS Myer shields on the back. While they have coffin-style bars, the "ties" for the railroad tracks are mounted inboard like later rank insignia. I suspect these are probablt late 20s or early 30s vintage.....but that's just a guess.
cbuehler Posted May 15, 2008 #9 Posted May 15, 2008 This set is solid backet sterling silver marked. It also has a couple other marks that I am unfamiliar with. This pair have the mounting pins running north-south as opposed to east-west like most Capt rank Those are Assayers marks. These are marks attesting to the quality of the silver content and you may be able to find out where and when they were made. Check out www.925-1000.com for more info on these. CB
maxx Posted November 21, 2008 #10 Posted November 21, 2008 Marked "PASQUALE S.F. " on the back. No other marks present. Pin back open catch. I have a couple of additional examples I will try to post in the next few days.
teufelhunde.ret Posted November 21, 2008 #11 Posted November 21, 2008 front set in front is hallmarked BB&B Bronze - set in back unmarked - French made perhaps?
maxx Posted November 25, 2008 #13 Posted November 25, 2008 Coffin Lid Captain bars on Digital Camo Cap. Very timeless Designs don't you think?
Brig Posted September 4, 2009 #14 Posted September 4, 2009 Darryl, I know where yours came from...so I assume Marines/Navy used coffin bars, too?
teufelhunde.ret Posted September 5, 2009 #15 Posted September 5, 2009 Darryl, I know where yours came from...so I assume Marines/Navy used coffin bars, too? Apparently so... and in the thread http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...st&p=247808 there is a set of false braid Capt bars and a single Chinese made Capt bar. Upon getting the file from St Louis, I found this document, so apparently the unmarked set were those he bought from Horstman while at Parris Island s/f Darrell
Brig Posted March 21, 2010 #17 Posted March 21, 2010 couple more. got these with a group of Span-Am or earlier Army insignia and M20 enlisted EGAs...unmarked rears
hirsca Posted May 14, 2011 #18 Posted May 14, 2011 Another one of today's finds. C clasp, no markings that I can detect. Can anyone help me with a time frame or maker? Thanks, Al Hirschler in Dallas.
eaglerunner88 Posted October 9, 2022 #20 Posted October 9, 2022 Are these 1st Lt coffin bars of WWI vintage? 1920s? They are made of silver and unmarked. Thanks in advance!
Lt. Walker Posted November 15, 2024 #22 Posted November 15, 2024 Hoping I can get a timeframe on this 1st Lt bar and rhe purpose behind the fancy design. Thank you!
