Car show shots

Over the weekend I went to a car show at the local casino, which went pretty well. A group of German teen fans of the "Twlight" books/movies was passing by the town I live in on their way to Forks, WA after flying into Portland that morning. They needed to stop at the gas station in town just as I was putting a couple of gallons in the Jeep's tank before heading to the car show. Imagine their surprise, seeing a Jeep there. I was besiged by a couple of dozen of them, I'm sure my Jeep is on Facebook sites all over Germany right now. They seemed awfully disappointed when I told them I'd only been to Forks once and wasn't terribly impressed (I'm sure they were more disappointed once they actually got there after flying all the way from Europe, there's nothing in that town).

When I showed up at the show, another Jeep from the area that has been hitting all the local car shows since it was restored last year was there, so I just parked next to it as the owners are pretty nice folks.

Some things seen there including my ride...

Some of the things inside the jeep, the only modern thing is the sign with the stats for this vehicle:

Cool mural on the hood of a Triumph:

It's not military, but look what someone did to this poor Power Wagon:

My wife got us some better cell phones recently, and I tested the camera out on the way back from the show on a back road (for background on the cell phone's screen), I wish I'd broken out the good camera for this shot:

I later played around with that shot and good some decent effect with it:

Where did you get the tires for your jeep? That is the best copy of the WWII NDT tread I have seen.
They were on the Jeep already when I got them. They have Korean markings. Nankang, I think it says if memory serves without me going out the garage...

Coker makes a great NDT, I've seen them before and if I needed new tirtes, that's who I'd get 'em from.

I scored two WWII navy officers visor caps at Forks, a khaki one and a scarce gray one for $25 total. There's some stuff there.

I was originally talking about generally, in regard to the Twilight fan group from Germany that was going to Forks I encountered on the way to the show. I truly doubt any of these German teenage girls would be looking for militaria...

I normally only do two car shows a year, and both in August. The second was yesterday and a good time was had by all, they blocked off all of down Centralia, WA for it. As I pulled past the registration tent, I was asked to pull up right next to it. I was told later it was due to the short length of my Jeep, but I didn't mind because it would be so unlikely anyone would mess with the Jeep with a dozen people putting the show on standing right next to it!

The only thing that irked me was when they were reading out awards, the guy was reading my vehicle's info (he mentioned a 1944 year and mine was the only vehicle there made that year) and someone stopped him. A minute of silence, and he started over with someone else's info as if he'd never said it. I never take the Jeep to shows to win awards, but it ticked me off that someone wanted to give me one and they were stopped from doing so. I'd been talking with a spectator at the time and even he said, "I don't get it, I heard him say 1944, too." There was only one other WW2 vehicle there and it was a '43 GPW...

Too funny, Tom, that's exactly what I said when i got home and told my wife how the show went!

It's all good, I did win an award at that same show two years ago, which hangs on the wall in the toy room today:
