Like Kurt mentions it’s the black bobbin thread on the back. There’s a whole thread about it. Besides British made patches, I don’t think there was anything WW2 with a black back? Khaki twill was used up until the 1960s.

Yes, some may argue the 91st is us made. The less detail a patch has the harder it can be to tell. They’re even some German made patches that look almost 1:1 to with us made examples. At that point I wouldn’t pay a premium.

I was in the infantry over a decade ago now, but Gerber multitools in a small pouch were issued as part of (pre-deployment) RFI kit. I assume something similar is still going on.

See a lot of these pins with the Waffle pattern backs being made in China or Taiwan.

My wife’s uncle was a company commander in the 106th ID and was captured….family still has his uniform and notebook he kept recording his men that were wounded or killed…along with info. I spoke to him one night about his experiences…..WOW is all I can say….. just listened. Beautiful uniform and named…..fantastic history piece. Thank you for posting.

I can never wrap my head around auction prices and why people use them for current market values. I will see items sit at shows unsold for the same "values" or even less. Where are the buyers? People who go to shows all look on line and at a show if the price is the same or lower they dont buy it. Many make very low offers same with the dealers buying. Also people at shows tend to have a bit of room in an item. Recent show I was at there were a lot of 1911s and 1911a1s. A guy walked in with a 1914 1911 and it was a beauty. He wanted 3 grand. Not sure if he was "firm" on price but later asked him if he sold it. He had two 45s and he said he didn't sell it after looking at the prices on tables. I replied prices can be subjective and for example there is a WW2 Cotl here at the show and I have seen it for the last 5-6 years. The seller has 2700 on it. I hadn't looked to see if it was 100% correct but it did look like it had a refinish at some point in its life. The parkerizing just looked to good. I mentioned that this isnt the only show the seller does and each year he ups the price a few hundred dollars and its sits unsold and I hear him tell others this is what these sell for at Rock Island or Gun Broker. My question is why isnt it sold then? Why dont these sellers put it up for auction instead of dragging it from show to show like a dead horse. Im guessing next year this pistol will be 3200-3500 if he follows his trend. Also no one dealer bought the 1914 and the owner didnt say if he had any serious offers for 3k. Also with Rock Island or any other auction there are fees both hidden and other wise. Some of these auctions can take up to 40% of the "sold" price. I have heard a lot of stories from people I know personally and were very disappointed after an auction. Some thought their items were going to be in the premiere auction but ended up in the regional sales. Some saw a lower price than expected only to see the pistol(s) ran again 3 months later and bring higher prices for the same guns they sold. Seems to be some smoke and mirrors at these auctions. I really would like to meet these people who are buying at auctions, paying the fees and shipping costs as they sure are not at the shows attend and could avoid the buyers premium and other fees.

Here’s a couple pictures of Inland 3446 that I bought so I could compare its late June-early July 1942 produced parts with my 270 Carbine’s April-May parts, some of which were obviously pre-production parts. Its serial number has an interesting machine roll-dye error on the left-hand side of the 3446.

Hello, a few months ago I painted my airsoft m14 to simulate a parkerized finish. The only problem is while using matte paint, it looks matte painted, not like a parkerized metal finish. Does anyone know how I can paint it to look like parkerized metal? I’ve seen some airsoft m14s in the past with great looking parked finish. I’ve seen the technique on g503, but I was hoping for one specifically for the M1 line of weapons. Also, is there a paint technique to show the oils of your hands like a really parked gun or magazine? Note the first magazine in my reference picture. Mine just looks like flat spray paint. Any help? Post WWII OD Wool Overcoat sighting, here in the National Guard in September 1950. with both Brass Buttons are recent Wartime OD Bakelight ones, which would make sense, as they probably had these in the Inventory after WWII, when the NG form up again in the 46-47 period, who knows maybe the Regular Army and Reserves had stocks of these in supply rooms laying around never to be really issued anymore Don't know if these were issued out, most having no doubt the new OD Poplin Overcoats. Troops of one of the Companies of the 160th Infantry 40th Infantry Division Los Angeles California on being Federalized because of the war in Korea, draw weapons from what must be a Supply Room cum Arms Room at their Armory.

I haven’t seen as many PAL USMC knives online. I assume that PAL made fewer USMC blades than Camillus and KA-BAR during WW II ?

I’ve been doing some google searching as there is no match on the registry for ASN 37471499. I ran across an obituary for Russell K Buffett who served in the 104th infantry division which apparently was in France in 1944. I did a registry search for the name and there was some Buffett’s but no Russel K. Does anyone think this ASN could be in a group of missing ones or have an idea to find this individuals ASN to see if it matches the canteen? Thank you in advance, Hayman

Yes, some of the khaki disc BMTC patches were mounted on the No-So Metal Fastener System patented by Capt Charles Welsh, 9th Sig. Co. Welsh didn't live to far away from Farrington High School where the BMTC was once bases out of and he probably was even a member of the organization since he would had fit the age catagory of being too old to enlist into the service during WWII. That small hoard came from Edward Stanwood former collection. He passed away several years ago. We rubbed elbows at the local gun shows and collector shows over years and he was primarily a Navy collector but was once actively gathering anything Hawaii military related. Sure miss seeing the guy!

Markings are on the blade; PAL on one side and USMC on the other. The USMC knife was the only USMC/USN knife PAL marked with just the name, the Mark 1 and 2 (USNavy) were marked RH, PAL in an oval over MADE IN USA, 35 or 37, as was their 6-inch hunting knife (36) purchased by the US Army in droves.
