I lived here for nearly a year and grew interested in the compound as a whole. This was a resort area for Baath Party officials as well as a hunting compound, there was also a Republican Guard unit garrisoned here. Saddam's Wife Sajida had a small tower like palace on the lake as did many other senior officers and government officials. A neighbor of mine (also my best friends dad) was with the 4th MarDiv. In Iraq in 2003. He got tons of souvenirs from his time overseas including 2 flags, a handful of patches, about 1K in Iraqi Currency, a Iraqi helmet with battle damage, some carpet strips from his palace and some sort of &#x201C;suicide knife&#x201D; that has a bunch of gems in the sheath. Wish I had pictures. Maybe I&#x2019;ll ask for some on the future. He kept pretty much all his stuff from his overseas tours. This tile cam from the al-Faw palace in Baghdad....home of Uday Hussein, one of Saddam's two notorious sons (the other being Qusay), who were renowned for their cruelty and sadism. She's also a retired Air Force Master Sergeant and Load Master, who flew numerous missions into and out of Iraq and Afghanistan in the Global War On Terror. Today she donated some of her souvenirs from the opening days of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in 2003.  The flag (finally, one with fringe!) is about 3X4 feet and was is still in the bag it came home in.....

It made me so mad I could have bitten a grenade in half sometimes. But then years later two guys at work started calling me Mikey without the &#x201C;likes it&#x201D; carp and I came to accept it, and finally embraced the name. But in a fit of defiance, I spelled it mikie, as you can see.
