Garth Thompson Posted February 7, 2010 #1 Posted February 7, 2010 Here is another socalled theater made Alamo Scout patch some poor bugger just threw $426.00 down the drain on. Garth The auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT The patch:
Dave Posted February 7, 2010 #2 Posted February 7, 2010 I know that there's some great bargains on eBay. However, when it comes to really rare and desireable stuff, much if it tends to go for "near retail". Does the buyer of this for less than 25% of it's actual value REALLY think that they got a super bargain??? I don't get some people... Dave
gwb123 Posted February 7, 2010 #3 Posted February 7, 2010 The backside tells all.... Based on the backside and backing material I would say this was recently made in Vietnam. Their reproductions are not just limited to the Vietnam War period (although sometimes I don't think the repro artists know the difference when they see a WWII patch design on the internet.) New collectors + money - patience and research = money squandered and a new collector driven out of the market.
FriscoHare Posted February 9, 2010 #4 Posted February 9, 2010 Yep, saw that one too. I did some research in the SSI section of the forum and compared with what others had. Conclusion=don't buy it. Agreed, the back does tell all. Thanks USMF!
Garandomatic Posted February 9, 2010 #5 Posted February 9, 2010 I don't seek out patches as far as collecting goes. Is it the crudeness of the green lettering on the backside that you are referring to?
Dave Posted February 9, 2010 #6 Posted February 9, 2010 I don't seek out patches as far as collecting goes. Is it the crudeness of the green lettering on the backside that you are referring to? I unfortunately was an idiot and never properly photographed my Alamo Scout uniform before selling it. If you see a real Alamo Scout patch compared with this one, you'll see instantly why this one is bad. Perhaps one of the other guys can post up a real one for comparison? Dave
Wailuna Posted February 9, 2010 #7 Posted February 9, 2010 ...a real one...? Here is a real Scout. As for the patch...link here for the rest of the story (thanks to CaptCav).

There are so many red flags on this patch one does not where to begin. The crude lettering is one of them. The patch is too small compared to the original, and I believe the wrong color. The backing material is one that is currently being used in Vietnam. The thread looks to be synthetic when it should have been cotton. It is poorly cut and shaped. If you wanted an example of a bad reproduction, this would be a good one.
