Hey Guys!!

Well this year me and my dad are going to make our first Louisville show(SOS) appearance. We are going to fly in from Philly area to Louisville. We have hotel and airfair covered. Now,for the dilema......we know we are going to find things...included rifles........how do we get it home. We do not have a FFL license to send a rifle home. Any ideas on this...? Has anyone encountered the same issue? Many thanks guys..(Im getting goosebumps already thinking of going,Ive heard its AHHHHH MAZE INGGGGGGG!)

I was planning on going, but duty calls and I will not be attending yet again this year. Have fun and bring a LOT of cash.

Hmm, well I have not done it before, but I would think you could take any rifles that you did buy to a local gun/pawn shop and have them mail it to a shop near your house.

As long as the gun/pawn shop near your house has a FFL, you should be able to pick up your guns there without needing one yourself. Yet again, i've never done it before and I could be wrong...

Im sure there may be FFL dealers at the show from the area or someone from Phily who may have one who drove in.I would try and net work prior to the show and see if you can find a dealer who will be willing to do this for you.Im sure they will have a nominal fee.If they are an FFL licensed dealer they can buy and transport across state lines. If no paper work is involved you may find someone or a forum member to haul your stuff back for a reasoable price,

edit....should have added the the large gunshow next to the SOS should have some able gun dealers who would help. You may want to contact the promotor(s) of both shows to see if the service is avaiable.

The big question, as far as buying a firearm, of ANY type (post-1898) is the legal PURCHASE across state lines - which (I think) would require purchase of a C&R or FFL to do legally. Once you resolve that situation, getting it home is easy - buy a locking long gun case before you leave home, send it (empty) as part of your checked luggage, and then put the weapon in the case and send home, as part of your checked baggage. Easy to do - but would simplify life if you confirm your airline's policy ahead of time. THey usually just want you to declare the weapon when you check the bag.

Good luck!

You don't need an FFL to ship them...just an FFL on the receiving end. So start looking for a local dealer who won't charge you an arm and a leg to transfer them. I'm fairly sure that's how it works in all states...anyone can mail a gun as long as it's going to an FFL. Be sure to take a signed copy of the FFL holder's lincense with you when you ship the guns home.

A non licensee can mail a long gun but not a handgun. Only FFL dealers can ship a handgun using the USPS. This is listed in the postal regulations and not in the ATF regs. This regulation excludes C&R holders as they are collectors and not dealers.

Steve is correct - your problem is not shipping modern firearms home. Your problem is legally purchasing them without an FFL. There are several solutions, the easiest of which is to acquire a C&R license yourself.

As far as getting them home, at that point I would suggest that you probably have a collector or dealer friend from your local area who drove to the show. A well-placed bribe may entice them to bring them home for you. If you do not have a local friend at the show with a vehicle - fly out with an empty rifle case or a locking hardshell golf case. You can fly home with your rifles nestled safely in the belly of the aircraft. Southwest is the easiest to deal with on this (and most other things.) Make sure that all of the firearms are unloaded. Fill out a firearms card at the ticket counter. TSA will examine the container to ensure that everything is proper, and then off you go. They will not be alarmed by this - flying with firearms is quite routine. Just make sure your case LOCKS. (TSA rule) You will need to stand by while they X-ray your bag in case they need you to open the lock for them. Plan an extra 10-15 minutes for this.

Another option is sending them to a dealer in your home area via UPS. Some UPS stores will not accept 'weapons' (individual store policy, not UPS policy), so check ahead of time if this is your plan.

Actually it is UPS policy - http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources...s/firearms.html
