Johan Willaert Posted October 28, 2009 #1 Posted October 28, 2009 I had to wait endlessly in hospital this morning and luckiliy the TV was on the History Channel.... They showed a great documentary about P51s in the ETO in WW2 and it featured a restored Mustang Miss Helen.... It was shot with collectors/re-enactors portraying pilots and groundcrews.... Guess who was crew chief of the bird.... Yes, our very own '517th'.... Nice job...!! Anyone else seen him in action??? Johan

Johan Willaert Posted October 28, 2009 Author #6 Posted October 28, 2009 Johan: Hope you enjoyed the documentary, i really enjoyed being a part of it. Yes, enjoyed it very much...! When was it filmed?
Blake_E Posted October 29, 2009 #8 Posted October 29, 2009 Good job 517th! I'll have to try and have a look
snake36bravo Posted October 30, 2009 #9 Posted October 30, 2009 That particular episode on the P-51 was excellent. HC is always a mix up but they really did well on that one. Funny, my ex-wife used to call it the Hitler Channel partly because of all the WW2 shows.
cco23i Posted November 2, 2009 #10 Posted November 2, 2009 Where did they do the filming at? And goo show 517th, as my main impression and research is into the ground crews you did a good job. Scott
ClaptonIsGod Posted November 8, 2009 #11 Posted November 8, 2009 Found a P-51 survivors page which contained a article about "Miss Helen" http://www.mustangsmustangs.net/p-51/survi.../44-72216.shtml Pretty interesting history behind this bird

If you read the above link it gives the aircrafts history. It shows that in 2000 it was returned to its original color scheme as Miss Helen, it was just after the paint job that the filming was done.........517th
Johan Willaert Posted September 24, 2013 Author #13 Posted September 24, 2013 No would you believe it??? This afternoon I sat in the same waiting room for my annual medical check-up and was watching an episode of Lords of War on NG Channel on that same TV.... Who appears on screen??? Our very own Bob H, trying to sell a summer cotton USN Officers' set and a USMC Women's Reserve uniform... Needed money to buy a WW2 helmet he said... Somehow I don't mind waiting in that hospital any more..... Johan
Sabrejet Posted September 24, 2013 #14 Posted September 24, 2013 Not forgetting Owen and Bob C...our very own dynamic duo! Maybe they could pilot a new show combining the best aspects of "Combat Cash" and "American Pickers"....Combat Pickers. Sounds like a winner to me!
Jack's Son Posted September 24, 2013 #15 Posted September 24, 2013 A Star is born! Please keep us informed about more appearances in the future!
Jack's Son Posted September 24, 2013 #16 Posted September 24, 2013 Not forgetting Owen and Bob C...our very own dynamic duo! Maybe they could pilot a new show combining the best aspects of "Combat Cash" and "American Pickers"....Combat Pickers. Sounds like a winner to me! I think there is no end to shows that these two can be part of. I think it's a matter of the RIGHT producer of the show. Content and style are everything!
jgawne Posted September 24, 2013 #17 Posted September 24, 2013 What? the History Channel doing something on history? and without reality show beards? Hell must have frozen over!
fstop61 Posted September 24, 2013 #18 Posted September 24, 2013 I'm not surprised we have the cream of the crop of folks here on the forum......present company excluded...(me).....lol
