Rustykamel Posted July 23, 2008 #1 Posted July 23, 2008 Hi, Fifteen years ago my boys wanted me to build them a PVC potatoe cannon they could fire from their tree house. Not wanting to go to war with my neighbors, I made them a wood sub-machine gun instead. This is a toy, so kind of beat up, but thought some of you might enjoy seeing it anyway. Best wishes, Jim
316th FS 324th FG Posted July 23, 2008 #4 Posted July 23, 2008 Very nice. Have any patterns you could share?

Blake_E Posted August 22, 2009 #7 Posted August 22, 2009 Well done mate, a great piece, i know old topic, but saw it as your display pic and just had to post
The Collector Posted October 17, 2009 #8 Posted October 17, 2009 Hi There , Im aware its an old post but an excelent job , well done . I made some German 1:1 scale G43s for a living history group a long while ago . However Im in the UK so we now have the new VCR bill that I would imagine stops me making these now
Rustykamel Posted October 18, 2009 Author #9 Posted October 18, 2009 Hi, Thanks for the kind words everyone. The tommyguns were fun to make, but didn't hold up well as toys. I should have made the receiver from a hardwood. Thanks again, Jim
SGM (ret.) Posted October 18, 2009 #10 Posted October 18, 2009 Hi There , Im aware its an old post but an excelent job , well done . I made some German 1:1 scale G43s for a living history group a long while ago . However Im in the UK so we now have the new VCR bill that I would imagine stops me making these now That is just nuts! "Toy" (model) guns - non-firing, display only, only appear like the real thing - couldn't chamber a live round if your life depended on it - built in your own workshop - illegal! Surely not... (Really? Really!? What kind of totalitarian BS is that?) I'm just... speachless... d**n!
Panzer 3 Posted October 30, 2009 #11 Posted October 30, 2009 Hi, Rustykamel, The collector is right about the VCR in the U.K, we cant even buy replica pistols unless we belong to reenactors, theatres or museums. And the only type you can buy now are coloured Orange or Yellow, It is now illegal to make any part or weapon ( even repro) in your own home. Well over the top if you ask me, but thats the way it is. Dave.
Manowar Posted October 31, 2009 #12 Posted October 31, 2009 Wow, those wooden replicas are way cool looking. My normal gig is classical guitar building, and all I can say is- why the hell didn't I think of that. Oh that VCR thing, you gotta be frigging kidding me.
Lee Ragan Posted November 2, 2009 #13 Posted November 2, 2009 Oh that VCR thing, you gotta be frigging kidding me. Makes me super happy that I live in the USA and especially in TEXAS! Like the old saying goes, "an unarmed man is a subject and and armed man is a citizen!"
Backtheattack Posted September 29, 2015 #14 Posted September 29, 2015 Great work. An idea for everyone who couldn`t own the real gun, or is restricted by law like here in Germany where demilled guns are baned in public, too.

Dave. First Rustykamel I want to say you did an excellent job in making those "toy" Thompsons. Very nice work. It shows you have a very good woodworking talent. Second as for the UK and their Draconian laws regarding weapon ownership all I can say is: Thank God for the 2nd Amendment. Semper Fi. Manny
