bschwartz Posted January 10, 2009 #1 Posted January 10, 2009 Hello, I'm new to the forums but many of you may know my website. I'm Bob Schwartz who runs the www.ww2wings.com site. Well, I should say I used to run it because I haven't been keeping it up to date since the birth of our first child last January. I still keep the site alive I've just taken a bit of a break from the hobby but this site has enticed me to slowly work my way back in. I look forward to sharing whatever information I can and learning a ton from everyone here. To start with I'm posting my WWI era tunic that I purchased four or five years ago. It's labled C. Little or Lottle but have been unable to find any documentation of an aviator by that name. The bullion wings appear to be attached to a metal plate with a pin back and roller ball catch. Here goes with the pictures: Tunic: Wings front: Wings Back: Wings hinge:
bschwartz Posted January 10, 2009 Author #2 Posted January 10, 2009 More photos: Tunic Label: Name: Insignia: That's all. Thanks for looking!
pconrad02 Posted January 10, 2009 #3 Posted January 10, 2009 Great Tunic, and Welcome to the Forum ( About time! but kids do have a way of reprioritizing things . I know, I have 2 under the age of nine)!
bschwartz Posted January 10, 2009 Author #4 Posted January 10, 2009 Thanks for the welcome Paul. I'm glad to be here. I forgot to attach photos of the peaked cap that came with it. The cap has a 1920s-1930s pattern sweetheart pilot wing attached. Photos are here: Sorry, this one is a little blurry but you get the idea
JDK Posted January 10, 2009 #5 Posted January 10, 2009 I'll second that. Nice uniform, and kids do take some of the extra funds. I've got 3 under 6 years old. 5 1/2 year old twins, and a 2 year old. I found collecting to be a nice getaway from the chaos though!! J.D.
trenchbuff Posted January 11, 2009 #6 Posted January 11, 2009 Beautiful jacket and killer wing. Welcome to the forum!!! I'm sure everyone will be looking forward to future posts. It'll be hard to beat this though. Mark
IMPERIAL QUEST Posted January 11, 2009 #7 Posted January 11, 2009 Hi Bob, and welcome! Super looking uniform. I have enjoyed drooling over the wings on your great site for some time. I am very glad that you are here, and look forward to your future postings .
Croix de Guerre Posted January 11, 2009 #8 Posted January 11, 2009 Welcome to the party! Glad to have another WWI Aviation buff on board! Great uniform! And condradulations on the baby! I became a Dad for the first time in September!
CliffP Posted January 11, 2009 #9 Posted January 11, 2009 Welcome aboard old friend! Bob, you've contributed a great deal to nurturing the growth of this this hobby and it's good to have you with us. So what kept you? Only kidding Bob, I'm a new comer here too. Give Jackie and Tyler my best, Cliff
Teamski Posted January 11, 2009 #10 Posted January 11, 2009 A very warm welcome indeed! Sweet uniform! -Ski
teufelhunde.ret Posted January 11, 2009 #11 Posted January 11, 2009 This is a great introduction, welcome aboard Bob! s/f Darrell
Paul S Posted January 11, 2009 #12 Posted January 11, 2009 Welcome Bob, I've relied on your site (and Patrick's) for several years to try and reduce my own confusion while starting out and thank you for it. Looking forward to seeing your posts and learning more. Paul S
pfrost Posted January 11, 2009 #13 Posted January 11, 2009 Welcome Bob, For those of you who don't know, Bob has arguably the finest wing web sites available for looking at vintage wings and things related to wings from WWI to WWII. His site covers almost (if not all) of the wing badges used by the countries involved in WWII. It also has a fair number of other features, such as WWI wings, groupings, insignia, and miscellaneous items. He has managed to get many of the current "titans" of wing collectors (like our Mr. Cliff P) to contribute examples of rare and beautiful wings, but is also willing to share the treasures many other collectors and hobby enthusiasts. In my collecting, I use a handful of sources to study wings, and Bob's site is one of them. I think the forum is lucky to add yet another well regarded and recognized wing expert and enthusiast to its ranks. Patrick
John Cooper Posted January 11, 2009 #14 Posted January 11, 2009 Welcome home Bob! I am glad you decided to join the forum and share in all the fun this hobby can be. Thanks for posting the uniform we discussed... and I loved the high res photos! John
bschwartz Posted January 11, 2009 Author #15 Posted January 11, 2009 Thank you all for the very gracious welcome. Thanks too for the compliments on my site. After all the hours I've put in on it over the years it's nice to hear that it's appreciated and used by the exact people I created it for. Well, to be honest, I was a bit selfish when I first created it as I started it so that I could see as many wings as possible for my own education. It's only become what it is thanks to the sharing of collectors all over the world. My personal collection is nowhere near as grand as my virtual collection on-line. However if there are ever photos of anything that people are looking for I will do my best to help out. I look very forward to sharing information on these forums whenever I have things to add and to slowly working my way back into the hobby. I have a feeling I'll learn much more than I'll be able to contribute but I have to say that it feels very good to start getting connected to the hobby again.
Escadrille Posted January 12, 2009 #16 Posted January 12, 2009 Nice uniform! Thanks for the posting. I collect WW1 aviation and am always interested in seeing uniforms such as yours. And "Welcome back" - I took a hiatus from collecting also - for 6-8 years and am finding lots of newcomers, more information, and a lot of amazing stuff showing up on this website. Charlie W.
Rattle Posted January 14, 2009 #17 Posted January 14, 2009 Beautiful uniform and welcome to the forum !! Your Website was always a joy looking at. Regards, Stephan
