Normandy1944 Posted January 30, 2020 #1 Posted January 30, 2020 I came across these links on my Linkedin-page. An amazing tribute to WWII and a KIA airman. I have to say that I wish the Dutch army had such planes and paint jobs. https://taskandpurpose.com/f15-wwii-paint-job-honors-medal-of-honor-hero https://taskandpurpose.com/a-10-wwii-paint-job
gwb123 Posted January 30, 2020 #3 Posted January 30, 2020 The Navy did that a few years ago with "heritage" paint schemes for a select few modern aircraft. They also looked pretty cool. I think we captured that on here in an older thread.
Waltz41 Posted February 9, 2020 #5 Posted February 9, 2020 Yes, reminds me of the USN heritage schemes. The USAF still has some going on, esp with the training units. Some of these might be pretty recognizable to WWII USAAF buffs.....
Swifter Posted February 21, 2020 #7 Posted February 21, 2020 Love those takeoffs on vintage paint schemes, especially on the F-15. Like the P-51 and F-86, the "look" of the F-15 airframe is just "right"....aerodynamic perfection. Add a great paint scheme and it doesn't get much better.
