Here is a cdv sized tintype of an early USMC Officer:

Believe that the uniform would put this in the mid 1870s-- a time when the marine corps consisted of about 2,000+- men.

Thanks for looking Bob.  I only have to eliminate 74 Marines to get an ID!

 

Wish there were more published examples of Marine officers from this time period.
