blademan Posted July 21, 2017 #1 Posted July 21, 2017 Just picked up this nice tailor made Korean War ike jacket ID to a member of the 7th Infantry who fought at Hacksaw ridge. His name is Robert H. Keller. Dont have a picture of the uniform. I found a newspaper article on him: ROBERT H. KELLER BRUNO Gl WINS SILVER STAR FOR HEROISM SAN BRUNO, Aug. 1. Word was received here today that Sgt. Robert H. Keller, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman M. Keller of 424 Acacia avenue, has been awarded the army's silver star for gallantry in action m Korea, it is the armys third highest award Now stationed at Camp Drake, a replacement depot near Tokyo, Sergeant Keller won the medal for his action on Heartbreak ridge last January 8. Son Modest; Says Mom Mrs. Keller, mother of three sons who have participated in U. S. wars, today said she had had "a feeling her son, Bob, was in the midst of fighting for a long time. However, he had not said anything in his letters, she said, until it was announced he had won the silver star. Sergeant Keller, who graduated from San Mateo Hiah school . in June, 1945. was offered a chance at a battlefield commission if he would sign up for three years in the army. He turned it down, as he had a previous chance at Camp Roberts, upon finishing training, to attend officer candidate school. Wanted Frontline According to Mrs. Keller, he son had been returned to Japan after nnisning a tour ol duty in Korea. Me men requested frontline service, slating he "couldnx stand a desk job." The armv granted his request and he was flown to the front line in time to participate in one of several battles for Heartbreak ridge. WW2JAKE Posted July 21, 2017 #2 Posted July 21, 2017 Do you mean heartbreak ridge? Hacksaw was in WW2, a movie just came out about it not too long ago. And plus all the info you posted says heartbreak ridge.

patches Posted July 22, 2017 #8 Posted July 22, 2017 thank you Bear in mind that this award would not have been for thee Battle of Heartbreak Ridge, that involved the 2nd Inf Div and the French. Having said that, the 7th Inf Div did replace the 2nd Inf Div after this big fight, and like all the terrain features occupied by UN forces, seen continued fighting till the armistice, some of it sporadic, some if it less then sporadic, some of it crucial, like Old Baldy, White Horse, Pork Chop etc etc.
