Unique catch design on USMC QM pin

(Not sure if this is an appropriate section for this post, if not Mods please move)

Was taking a close look at some of my USMC pins. Haven't seen anything with kind of catch before. I originally thought it was just a C-catch but notice now it has a strange locking piece maybe a precursor to the roller-catch? Check it out and tell me what you think.

Anyone seen one like this at all? I thought it was interesting, but I figure someone has to know more about it! I have a handfull of these QM wheels and this is the only one with this style catch...

It's known as the 'Tiffanys Clasp', because it was commonly used by Tiffanys & Co jewelers. However, other firms used it, as well, particularly H&H
