doyler Posted June 12, 2008 Share #62 Posted June 12, 2008 I'm sure your right. My own assesment is that these SSI are subdued by the soldiers themselves. I've seen only few examples of subdued VN worn SSI. These examples were all locally made. I dont't think that sudued cut edge nor merrow 've been sent in VN.Very interesting thread Valery A friend of mine served in the 1st Cav in Viet Nam.He was a medic and was there fairly early.I asked him for a patch and he said he didnt save any.we talked a little more and he said when they first went over they had all color Cav patches. He hadnt been there to long and they got the order to dye all of their t-shirts and underwear dark green. He said for the patches he and many others colored in the yellow with black majic markers. This was the way they"subdued the patch when he was there. He never saved one. Mr-X Posted July 3, 2008 Author Share #69 Posted July 3, 2008 Ranger gear photo.Note the Web gear set up.2 Canteen covers for mags on the front then Ammo pouches and 2 2qt canteens for water. Also note the grenades on the ruck. I can only think that they were there for quick use by other membersof the patrol when in contact, or he just put them there for the pic.
